LSC Graduates and Families Celebrate Together
Ceremony important both for those crossing the stage and walking the stage.
DULUTH, Minn. — The parade of smiles, diplomas and tassels continued Monday in Duluth.
This time it was the turn for graduates of Lake Superior College–752 to be exact.
They were in 69 different program areas and every student had their own story.
For Christy Cuppy it was the day to finally get her RN degree, after 15 years working as a CNA. It was a difficult journey, but she was inspired.
“Well personally I’ve been injured a few times in my life, and there are a few nurses in my past that really meant the world to me and made a huge difference in my life,” Cuppy said.
“And one in particular I will never forget. I was in a car accident, and she was there for me all the time. And it just inspired me to want to be there for other people and take care of them,” she said.
Christy said she had big support from her family, and that was a common theme for many people at Monday’s ceremony.
That is not lost on school officials, who understand it’s a lot more than just a walk down the aisle or across the stage. Most students were walking for more than just themselves.
“Well, it’s a very positive thing for students to see family and friends cheering them and encouraging them on this milestone event,” said David Kline, Vice President for Advancement and External Relations.
“We want to celebrate that with them, and it’s very important that we take time to reflect on where we’ve been and where we’re going,” said Kline.
LSC has a very big cross-section of students earning certificates, diplomas or associate degrees. Forty-eight high school students earned both their diploma and college credit through the Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program.
It was a day of congratulations not only for the graduates, but for the parents and family who helped get them across the finish line.
