BCA: Man Killed by Minneapolis Police had Lunged at Officers

Investigators say a man fatally shot by Minneapolis police as he stabbed another man this week had lunged at the officers with a knife.

The Minneapolis Bureau of Criminal Apprehension identified the officers as Eric Malmberg and David Robins.  Both have been placed on standard administrative leave.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who was shot as 50-year-old Raul Salvador Marquez Heraldes, of Minneapolis.  Marquez Heraldes died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The BCA says he lunged at officers as they responded to a 911 call early Monday morning, then ran into an apartment bathroom and began stabbing a 63-year-old man.

The officers forced their way in and shot Marquez Heraldes.  One officer suffered a hand injury during the struggle.  According to the Star Tribune, the tenant who was stabbed was in critical condition Thursday.
