CSS Throwers Beneke & Beseth Set to Compete at D3 Outdoor National Championships

This is the 3rd straight year that Beneke has qualified. Beseth has competed in the indoor national championship before.

DULUTH, Minn.- St. Scholastica throwers Lily Beneke and Trent Beseth have earned plenty of accolades over the course of the season.

Later this week, they’ll look to add national champion to that list.

The two will be heading to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to compete in the Division III Outdoor National Championships.

This is the 3rd straight year that Beneke has qualified.

Just last season, she earned All-American status by placing 3rd in the hammer throw.

As for Beseth, he’s set for his first outdoor appearance.

He’ll look to improve on his mark of 55.23 meters in the discus throw and 16.95 meters in the shot put.

Both athletes expressed their confidence heading into the events.

“I’ve competed against a lot of the top girls that are from the WIAC and a couple schools at Iowa at Drake Relays and a couple other meets so far. So it was really fun seeing them early in the season. I’m on the 2nd flight this year with a lot of the same people. It’s calming because I’ve competed against a lot of the same girls and we know each other and we chat and everything. So, it’s a little bit of both like hey I still made it but like okay I got it,” said Beneke.

“Most nervous I’ve ever been in my track career was indoor championship for some reason. I couldn’t really tell you why but it kind of like got the nerves out. Even at indoor nationals, I wasn’t super nervous. I’m just excited to throw and ready to get after it basically,” added Beseth.

Beseth is set to compete on Thursday and Friday. And Beneke will compete on Saturday.
