Take a trip upstairs at Zeitgeist and you'll find yourself in the Film Lab, a learning ground for filmmakers

DULUTH, Minn. — Maybe you’ve stopped by Zeitgeist in downtown Duluth for a movie, comedy show, or bite to eat. What you might not know is that upstairs, you could become a filmmaker of your own.

The Minnesota Media Arts School offers classes for any skill level, both here at the Zeitgeist Film Lab and the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm. Programs Director Vera Bianchini said she’s seen aspiring filmmakers of all ages, sixteen and up. Right now, they’re offering a screenwriting class.

“Our classes provide the basics, but what we’ve seen come out of these classes are completed projects,” said Bianchini. “So at the end of a screenwriting class, they’ll have a finished screenplay. Otherwise, we’ve seen people partner and connect and take off into their own realm of projects that are just outside of the classroom.”

Whether students are looking to become professional filmmakers or just try out a new hobby, Bianchini said these classes are a safe space to explore and network.

Screenwriting classes are offered Mondays in Duluth and Tuesdays in Chisholm at 6:30 p.m. The Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm also offers editing workshops on Wednesdays. For more information, go to zeitgeistarts.com/mmas.
