Police: Douglas County Sheriff’s Detective Arrested For Drunken Hit-&-Run
SUPERIOR, Wis. – A detective with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is accused of hit-and-run while under the influence of alcohol.
Superior police told FOX 21 Matthew DeRosia, 50, was arrested Sunday around 10:15 p.m. after an officer saw his vehicle sparking from a blown-out tire.
The incident unfolded on the 1100 block of E. Fifth Street.
Upon further investigation, police learned DeRosia’s vehicle struck a parked car a block away, sending it onto the sidewalk.
Officers reported a “strong odor of intoxicants” coming from DeRosia’s vehicle. DeRosia repeatedly told officers he “f*cked up,” according to the police report.
The report said DeRosia refused a field sobriety test. A warrant was issued for a blood test at a Duluth hospital. Results were pending Tuesday.
DeRosia was cited for hit-and-run of an unattended vehicle and operating while under the influence.
Because this is DeRosia’s first OWI and the vehicle struck had nobody in it, Wisconsin law says both are city citations, which will be handled by the Superior City Attorney’s Office.
Meanwhile, Douglas County Sheriff Matt Izzard told FOX 21 on Tuesday that he could not comment because it is a “personnel matter.”
