Expert Discusses Unique Election Cycle
More People Have Been Engaged for Longer Periods of Time
The 2016 presidential election cycle is coming to a close in just a few hours.
Minnesota has consistently voted blue in presidential elections for longer than any other state, and Duluth isn’t usually a popular stop for Republican candidates. But this election cycle has been unique, with Presidential Candidate Donald Trump visiting Superior earlier this year, and Vice Presidential Candidate Mike Pence visiting Duluth the day before the election.
“I think in all respects, the candidates, the reaction of the general public, and the issues that have come up have been quite different from what we see in normal presidential election cycles,” said Alisa VonHagel, an Associate Professor of Political Science at UWS.
Political Experts say this time around more people have been engaged and interested in the election and the candidates for longer a longer period of time than previous elections.
