Duluth Huskies Opening Season With New, Familiar Faces
Home opener June 2 against Big Sticks
DULUTH, Minn.- On the day before the Duluth Huskies open their 2024 season, many of their players hadn’t been properly introduced to each other.
“We’re all actually still trying to remember everybody’s names, but it’s a pretty good vibe in the locker room,” says Gilbert Saunders, a new pitcher for the Huskies. “It feels great to get the season started. New opportunity obviously coming out here to Duluth, plenty of games to play, new group of guys to get to know, so I’m excited to get out here and showcase what I have and play a lot of baseball.”
Despite finishing with a winning record in 2023, the Huskies failed to reach the playoffs. However, returning contributors like Ethan Cole give Duluth some much-needed familiarity this summer.
“I kind of know the ins and outs a little bit more than the new guys do,” says Cole, a Duluth native and UMD infielder. “I do kind of see it as a new season, I do want to build a little bit, kind of keep what I had going last year, but other than that, just see how it goes.”
The Huskies’ 2024 season begins on Monday, May 27 on the road against the Badlands Big Sticks, with their home opener set for Sunday, June 2 at Historic Wade Stadium.
