Moose Lake/Willow River’s Bats Deliver in Section Championship
Rebels' third-straight Section 7A title
CLOQUET, Minn.- The Moose Lake/Willow River softball team are headed to their third consecutive state tournament after defeating Cherry 15-5 in the Class 7A Championship at Braun Park on Thursday.
The Rebels also defeated the Tigers 15-5 in the semifinals, but Cherry forced a rematch after upsetting top-seeded Silver Bay in the elimination bracket.
The Tigers came out of the gate hot with a three-run home run in the first inning, but Moose Lake/Willow River Head Coach Kelly Goeb was confident in her team’s ability to stay composed.
We’re behind and we kind of just know that are bats are going to take us to the end of the game,” Goeb recalled. “Maybe we look calm on the outside, but I’m definitely not calm on the inside. We know that we can do it and trust our hitters. We trust that we can have success and win the game.”
Moose Lake Willow River’s section title run appeared to be an improbable one after starting the season 2-6 overall. However, the Rebels bounced back with six straight wins enroute to their third consecutive section championship.
