Two years ago, a 17-year-old Duluth resident was shot and killed. Tuesday the shooter was found guilty.

Corey Devon Young was found guilty of second-degree intentional murder. He is now 19 years old, but was 17 at the time of the shooting.

In July of 2022, Duluth police were called to 1st Street and 16th Avenue East, next to Endion Park.

Young had just shot another 17-year-old. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The victim was Xzavier Aubid-St. Clair. At the time, Aubid-St. Clair’s grandmother, Deanna St. Clair, told Fox21 her grandson was always willing to help to take out the garbage, do the dishes or anything else.

Young was eventually certified to stand trial as an adult in the case. Prosecutors said Aubid-St. Clair had initially gone to an apartment building intending to fight Young.

Prosecutors said that after the two exchanged words, but before anything physical had started, Young took out a gun and shot Aubid-St. Clair.

Young claimed it was self-defense, but this week a Duluth jury found otherwise.

St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki issued a statement saying, “Our thoughts are with the family of the victim, whose young life was cut short due to this senseless act of violence.”

Young is scheduled to be sentenced on August 29th.
