Oceans Alive Exhibit Opens

DULUTH, Minn.– A new exhibit made a splash Friday morning at the Great Lakes Aquarium.

The Oceans Alive made its debut. The goal with this new exhibit is to represent how our oceans, climate, and local habitats are all connected. The project combines both freshwater, and saltwater enclosures in one area. They are welcoming a giant Pacific octopus, along with some weedy sea dragons as well. Even though we’re far from any ocean, Oceans Alive can be a great way to learn about the world around us.

“Seeing these creatures here in Duluth really allows people to open their experiences to building connections with animals that might not be near us. But are still very important to ecosystems and really still important to life here Duluth.” said Alexis Berke, Director of Learning and Engagement.

There is currently a naming contest happening for the new octopus. You can cast your vote on their Facebook page. The contest runs until Sunday. The octopus will then choose between the final two names. Yes, that’s right. The octopus will decide.
