One Dead after Head-On Collision in Koochiching County

One person died after a head-on collision in Koochiching County early Wednesday morning. 

According to the Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office, a Mazda Tribute was traveling southbound on Highway 71 when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the slippery road and crossed the centerline, colliding with a northbound pick-up truck. 

The driver of the Mazda Tribute was killed. 

The driver of the pick-up was taken to Rainy Lake Medical Center in International Falls with non-life threatening injuries. 

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family. 

The accident remains under investigation.
