Superior Parade Kick Starts Twin Ports Fourth of July Festivities

SUPERIOR, Wis. — It’s summertime. Which means parade season is in full swing. There’s plenty of reasons to gather.

From our nation’s heroes to your everyday local business just starting out. Like the Adventure Acres in Superior.

“So, we are opening a tourism farm in August. So, we have goats, and chickens and bunnies. And then like a corn pit and a bunch of outdoor activities,” said Adventure Acres owner Tosha Tiessen.

Every year Superior holds their annual 4th of July parade. It’s a great way to get involved in the community. For some, like the Sterling Silver Studio, it’s much more than that.

“In 2022 we volunteered to take over the direction of the parade. And to help continue this tradition that we’ve been a part of for more than 30 years,” said Sterling Silver Studio CEO, Carolyn Nelson-Kavajecz.

Being involved can give young performers some hands-on learning. “And really use that as an opportunity to not only entertain, but also to get students involved in the community, and help them understand the importance of community,” explained Nelson-Kavajecz.

This event draws a crowd of locals, and visitors. “I’m from the cities, but my aunts and mom are from here, so we come up every year.” said parade viewer Brooke Oaks.

At the parade, there truly is something to enjoy for everyone. For kids, “I’m looking forward to spending time with my family.” said parade viewer Hayden Pust.

As well as adults. “Oh, I love seeing everybody come together, seeing all the fire trucks, and the police vehicles, and all the kids waving flags.” said Oaks.

Some floats can have you learning a thing or two. Like the new pet finder app, called “Pand’r.”

“It’s basically a way for animal shelters to post their pets so pet finders that are in need for a furry friend, can find them easier.” said CEO Payton Walker.

For some, these floats can be a lifechanging discovery.

“And you know, it’s important people know who we are. They know that if they’re homeless, there’s a safe place to go.” said Executive Director Krystal Brandstatter.

Brandstatter is involved with the Harbor Houses Crisis Shelters.

“And you know, its important people know who we are. They know that if they’re homeless, there’s a safe place to go.” said Brandstatter.

However you decide to celebrate the parade, there is something for everyone to take away from it. Stories, lessons, and candy.
