DULUTH, Minn. — After 15 years of serving hand-crafted martinis in downtown Duluth, Black Water Lounge has made the difficult decision to close.

The lounge on the 200 block of East Superior Street is part of the Black Woods Group.

Co-owner Julie Thoreson told FOX 21 it’s a tough decision to close, but the right decision for the company’s overall success.  She said the customer base never quite came back after the pandemic.

“Times have changed — people’s dining and social habits have shifted — even more so since the impacts of COVID. These changes have pushed us to have to make a difficult decision to close a business that is very special to us,” Thoreson said.

The last day of business is next Thursday, July 25.

The 20 or so Black Water employees will stay with the company, which includes Black Woods Grill and Bar (Duluth, Proctor, Two Harbors), Tavern on the Hill and Greysolon by Black Woods, according to Thoreson.

Anyone with Black Water gift cards can use them at the sister restaurants.

Black Woods Group is one of the longest-running restaurant companies in the Twin Ports — spanning 30  years.
