Reliable Relief Pitching Earns Huskies’ Kratz An All-Star Bid
1.53 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched
DULUTH, Minn.- Caden Kratz will be one of two players representing the Duluth Huskies in this week’s Northwoods League All-Star Game.
Kratz, who recently graduated from Western Illinois University, has been stellar on the mound as a relief pitcher. In 17.2 innings, Kratz has only allowed 3 hits while striking out 23 batters. He also boasts a 1.53 ERA and leads Duluth with four saves.
“My pitching coach coached with (Huskies) Coach (Marcus) Pointer in 2019,” says Kratz. “They recommended that I come out here just before and see how, see how well I can do before the draft happens.”
Despite Kratz going undrafted, his dream is to continue his playing career on the mound. “My aspirations are to play pro ball in any way, shape or form that I can, and so I graduated college this spring, so this is my next step to try to achieve those dreams and that’s what I’m here to do, I’m trying to play pro ball, whether that’s in an independent league or an affiliated organization.”
Kratz will be joined by teammate Charlie Sutherland in the Northwoods League All-Star Game, which will take place on Tuesday in Mankato.
