Twin Ports Pro Development Camp Ending After Nine-Year Run in Superior
The camp officially wraps up on Saturday.
SUPERIOR, Wis.- The Twin Ports Pro Development Camp has been a summer staple in Superior as native Brett Olson helped develop the next generation of hockey players.
But, when the camp wraps up this weekend, it will be the end.
Olson confirmed the news to Fox 21 Thursday morning citing responsiblities with his assistant coaching duties with the Waterloo Black Hawks, family, and time constraints will end the nine-year run.
In Fox 21’s Coaches Corner segment that will air Friday, Olson looked back on the camp that’s meant so much to him.
“Just been so grateful and thankful for all the help that we’ve had here in town. It’s just going to get busier. I have two kids now that I have to chase around and run around with so this is going to be the last year. We’re going to try and keep the one in Waterloo going. I’m obviously down there full-time so it’ll be a little bit easier to faciliate a camp there. But, the familes, all the familes that came over the years. You know those nine years. All the players, the volunteers, the people that helped with food, the sponsors, all of our sponsors over the years that have helped make this camp happen. I just can’t thank them enough so I want to make sure everyone knows it’s been a great run,” said Olson.
For the last hurrah, Olson has once again put together a star-studded staff that includes Hermantown natives Ella Anick and Aaron Pionk.
“Just that they enjoy being here, getting to learn. I love to see when kids actually interact and engage themselves, try to get better and push themselves. It’s nice to see the kids come back even better than they were the year before,” said Anick.
“I just try to bring things from coaches that I’ve learned from in the past. So coaches that I’ve had from the Wild Development Camp, some skating things that I’ve learned from him. So I bring it to these kids. It’s a big jump but I think they’re picking it up really easily,” added Pionk.
Anick is entering her final year at St. Cloud State. While Pionk is set to be a sophomore at UMD.
