New Owner Of Unkept Hermantown Pet Cemetery Wants Property Rezoned
HERMANTOWN, Minn. — The City of Hermantown provided context Tuesday about changes to private land that was once used decades ago as a small pet cemetery for the community by a former land owner.
The new land owner, who inherited the 2-acres of land, wants the property rezoned back to residential from public.
The city put out a public notice to allow any possible pet owners to enter the overgrown property off Sunnyview Road until the end of August to collect any potential remains or stones from past pets.
Two pet owners have come forward to access the site.
There’s no record of how many pets are buried on the property or where their locations are because the former owner passed away in 2021, according to a spokesperson for the city of Hermantown.
City officials said the new land owner has not submitted any plans to do anything else with the property other than rezone it back to residential.
