Man Sentenced To 46 Years In Prison For Murder Of Babbitt Couple

BABBITT, Minn. — A man accused of killing a husband and wife in Babbitt last year was sentenced to 46 years in prison on Monday.

54-year-old Roger Beldo killed Clifford and Christine Johnson at their Babbitt home on October 28, 2023.

The victims were both in their late-70s. Beldo had been living with the couple for about a month by the time of the incident.

Court documents said Beldo told investigators that the victims, “wanted his section 8 voucher after he was approved, and that the victims were taking his food stamps.”

Beldo used a tire iron and a hammer to commit the crimes.
