Harbor Monsters Reflect on Becoming First-Ever ArenaMania Champions

Duluth finishes their first-ever season with an overall record of 7-3.

DULUTH, Minn.- You hear the phrase game of the year thrown out there quite a bit.

But, that’s exactly what it was on Saturday night when the Duluth Harbor Monsters clashed with the Iowa Woo for the right to be crowned as the first-ever ArenaMania champion.

In a back and forth scoring battle, the Harbor Monsters made the big plays when it mattered most, coming out on top with the 46-44 victory.

“Incredibly proud, we didn’t give up. We kept making adjustments. We kept staying together as a family. And we executed, we came out and executed. That 2nd half belonged to us,” said head coach Tony O’Neil.

“From being in the snow in April to running gait. It’s all worth it. It’s all worth it. That’s all I have to say man. Love this team, love this program and this city,” added linebacker Lovell Spruce.

“I think it starts with preparation and practice. Our coaching staff, the owner, all of us, all of our teammates, we all bought in. We went to work each and every single day. On top of that was our 12th man, the fans. Coming out and showing out every home game. Being loud for us, chanting defense when we needed them to. We couldn’t ask for anything more,” said defensive back Terrance Wenzel.

Duluth was led by Hassan Brockman on offense, who had two crucial rushing touchdowns down the stretch. Brockman was named offensive MVP.

And on the defensive side, it was Javonte Haynes night as he had two interceptions to pick up the defensive MVP honor.

“I feel ecstatic. I’m amazed. I’m proud of the guys. We worked hard and never gave up this whole game. So, I couldn’t be more proud,” said fullback Travis Whitlock.

“My emotions are all over the place. We fought very hard to be here. A lot of adjustments, a lot of player interaction. But, the end goal was always one thing and that was bringing a championship to Duluth, Minnesota,” said O’Neil.

“I feel accomplished. I know at the beginning of the season we were championship or bust. It means nothing more than me than to come out here and get it done. Especially here in my hometown and give my hometown fans here a show,” added Wenzel.

Duluth finishes their first-ever season with an overall record of 7-3.
