Animal Allies Reaches Max Capacity for Dogs
DULUTH, Minn.– The dogs at Animal Allies have been pretty vocal lately. Because there’s so many of them!
The workers are concerned there’s no space for future dog rescues.
“So, we can only comfortably and safely house 30 dogs. Last week, we hit that number. Every single kennel was full. Meaning that, if there was an emergency surrender that needed to take place, or a stray was found, we quite literally did not have a single kennel to put an animal in.” explained adoption manager Nicole Facciotto.
According to Facciotto, there are several reasons for this to happen. People are facing a high cost of living. In addition, another mouth to feed can be expensive.
In the meantime, staff is doing their best to keep up with the demand of a packed house.
“When you have a full house, it’s really hard for them to decompress, it’s constantly loud, they can’t get as much one on one time with staff and volunteers.” said Facciotto.
Even if you can’t adopt an animal, there are other ways you can help out this shelter.
“The best thing you can do for us is spread the word, share our social media posts. Help those animals that have been here a while get those extra eyes on them.” said Facciotto.
Later this week, Animal Allies will have an open house on Thursday August 15th from 12-6. During this, you can be involved with their tours, food catering, and vendors, as well possibly meeting a new furry friend to take home.
