Birding Event Welcomes Anyone to Get Involved in the Hobby
SUPERIOR, Wis. — Did you know baby birds “graduate” into adulthood?
Every August, young birds mature into their full-grown state as they prepare for migration. And in Superior, people celebrated the start of migration as birds make their way down south.
The “Anyone Can Bird” event is a series of birding adventures where everyone is welcome.
The event aims to be accessible for anyone, as transportation, binoculars and mobility devices are available, as well as sign language interpretation.
“Birding is for everyone, and it’s hard if you are a person who doesn’t see yourself represented in that community,” said Ryan Feldbrugge, Education Specialist at Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve. “So, making it so that everyone can see themselves represented in that community, or at least enabling that opportunity is super important for us and I think for this community.”
Today’s event took place at Superiors newly restored Woodstock Bay landing
People hit the nearby trails scouting for birds and exploring bird related activities.
“There’s so many different kinds of birds, it’s really interesting to see the different things that they do, different times of year, even identifying them by their songs. So birding is for everybody,”
The last event in the “Anyone Can Bird” series will take place in October at Hawks Ridge.
