Railway Bridge Collapses Near MN-CA Border; No Reports Of Injuries

MN/CA BORDER. — CN-owned Rainy River Rail Lift Bridge collapsed Wednesday, which is on the Canadian side of the Minnesota-U.S. border, according to NWOnewswatch.com.

“A pile of twisted metal lies at one end of a bridge that connects the CN network to the Port of Thunder Bay,” NWO reported Wednesday.  Bridge 2

Photos from Rainy Lake Property Owners Assoc. in Ranier, Minnesota, showed just how damaged the railway track suffered, which is also known as the Five- Mile Bridge.

“Al Boivin, the owner/operator of Rainy Lake Boat Taxi, posted a message stating: “Well that’s the end of the 100-plus-year-old lift bridge. It collapsed this afternoon. Won’t be in operation for a long time,” NWO reported.

No trains were involved in the collapse and there were no immediate reports of injuries, according to NWO.
