Cloquet Volleyball Looks to Fill Void of 5 Seniors Lost From a Year Ago

Cloquet's first game of the season will come on August 27th at Duluth East.

CLOQUET, Minn.- For three straight seasons, the Cloquet Volleyball team has competed for the Section title in 7AAA.

And in all of those three seasons they’ve fallen just short to Grand Rapids.

With a new campaign on the horizon, the Lumberjacks will look to kick down the door this year.

But, they will have to do so with a number of key contributors gone. Cloquet graduated five seniors, including the all-time program leader in kills, Ava Carlson.

Head Coach Heidi Anderson agreed that it’s tough to replace what they lost but feels that she has the right players to step in.

“We have seven players that are returning from our practice squad and they’re working hard. We’re certainly going to expect a lot out of them. They’ve been through the varsity pace, the practice, the scrimmages. They’ve kind of been able to see this is what it’s all about and they’re kind of hungry to get out on the court and get to contribute,” said Anderson.

One of those seven players returning is senior setter Ella Maslowski. She stressed that herself and her teammates are going to have to learn fast if they want to replicate the previous year’s of success.

“I think everyone needs to step up really. Because, there was really only two of us that played consistently. We kind of need everyone to fill those spots. Especially the younger girls that need to step up too. Just need to try and help fill those spots because they’re big spots that we lost,” added Maslowski.

Cloquet’s first game of the season will come on August 27th at Duluth East.
