The Minnesota State Fair Experience
DULUTH, Minn.– Year after year, thousands of people flock to what we know as the great Minnesota get together. Whether they come for the food, the animals, or just to have a good time.
An area of the fair showcased some special Midwest flare. An entire section was dedicated to tractors, and grain crushers. Some of the machinery had quite the history, some of them were over one hundred years old!
“Individuals bring in equipment that they’ve restored. Maybe it belongs to relatives. Or they purchased it from someone who had this equipment. They restore it and show it at the state fair.” explained Jack Deschene, Supervisor of the Old Iron Block.
Sometimes when walking around the state fair, people are in search of the sweeter things in life. Appropriately named, Sweet Martha’s Cookies is an iconic stop for fairgoers.
“We have to get the cookies. This is my husband’s tradition, and my kids. We cannot miss it, it’s the first thing we’ve eaten.” said Diane Velie, a Sweet Martha’s Cookies enjoyer.
As iconic as the food may be, it’s not the only thing that draws folks to the fair.
The 34th Infantry Division “Red Bull” Band provided some tunes for people passing by. They played a mix of marches, as well as songs that reminisced on pep band music.
Adrenaline junkies also got their fill at the fair. We spoke to a family that makes it a mission to get to the Tilt O’ Whirl ride every year!
“The Tilt O’ Whirl! Yeah, that’s all we’ve been on!” exclaimed Caroline March, a Tilt O’ Whirl enthusiast.
Whatever your heart is set on for the Great Minnesota Get Together, there truly is something here for everyone.
