Unions Hold Labor Day Picnic
AFL-CIO holds annual Labor Day Picnic in Bayfront Park
DULUTH, Minn. — Today’s weather brought together the public and politicians alike for a picnic in Bayfront Park.
The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) has held their annual Labor Day picnic for several decades now. Members say that the historical ties to labor unions here in the Northland, has kept attendance strong over the years.
“We get here at seven in the morning, and we set up, we shuck corn, we cook corn,” said volunteer, and teacher’s union member, Judith McKeer.
Senator Amy Klobuchar made an on-stage appearance, along with other DFL candidates in attendance. With the looming presidential election, many speakers directed their comments to the importance of supporting candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, and her running mate, Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz.
“We see a lot more people coming today,” McKeer said, “maybe it’s because of the presidential election.”
