College of St. Scholastica Alumni Welcome Freshman Class

DULUTH, Minn. — St. Scholastica welcomed its freshman class with a convocation on Tuesday.

The ceremony was led by a group of Alumni who graduated over 50 years ago. It’s all about demonstrating community and comradery among students — new and from the past. Alumni this year happened to be all women, which school officials tell us demonstrates the school’s history of women in education.

“When these freshmen see these women usher them in, they know that they have a support system that goes beyond the walls here at the institution. And so, they can look at these alumni and see the amazing achievements they have had in their education and personal and professional lives, and they know that they have a very large group of alumni supporting them once they are past their time here at the college,” said Reba Copeland, Associate Vice President for College Advancement.

For one first-year student he says the ceremony really made him feel like college has actually begun.

“It’s really cool, especially after having welcome week over, it’s a really good start to the year. With classes starting up today its reinforcing that we’re here, we’re getting ready for the school year and it’s just, it’s really exciting,” said Luke Kamon, freshman student.

St. Scholastica opened in 1912 with only 6 students. Since then, enrollment in undergraduate and graduate programs has grown to around 4,000 students.
