School Bus Versus Vehicle Crash In Hibbing, 12 Injured

HIBBING, Minn. — A school bus versus vehicle crash happened in Hibbing Thursday morning causing a total of 12 people injured.

The St. Louis County Sheriff Gordan Ramsay says the car t-boned the bus causing it to roll on its side and then roll upright after the kids evacuated.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened at 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of Townline Road and Highway 5. A driver and 21 students were on the bus heading to Cherry School when the crash occurred. Witnesses told authorities students were crawling out of the bus on their own.

The Chief of the Hibbing Police Department stated in a press release that a mass casualty system was implemented.

Authorities say the driver of the car was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

One adult and 10 students were transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Many different agencies were on scene including Hibbing Fire/EMS, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
