A Celebration of Life for University of Duluth Minnesota Legendary Hockey Coach Held at the DECC

A celebration of life for University of Duluth Minnesota legendary men’s head hockey coach Mike Sertich was held today at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

DULUTH, Minn.– A celebration of life for University of Duluth Minnesota legendary men’s head hockey coach Mike Sertich was held today at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

Sertich passed away in early August at the age of 77. He was the head coach for the Bulldogs from 1982 to 2000, leading the team to four NCAA tournament berths. Former players, coaches, and family members gathered at the DECC to honor Sertich and celebrated his life on and off the ice. While sharing their favorite memories of coach Sertich. 

One of Sertich’s former players who attended the visitation, spoke about what set coach Sertich apart from other hockey coaches.

“ What really separated Mike from maybe a lot of other coaches, Mark said this as well. He treated us as people first and players second. Which was kind of different that what we went through in that era. He was a special coach in that sense”, said Bill Watson former UMD hockey player.

The visitation concluded at 2 P.M. followed up by the funeral.
