Growing Duluth Hosting An Introductory Mushroom Class

DULUTH, Minn. — Fungi lovers have a chance to learn how to grow their own mushrooms at home.

Growing Duluth is hosting the introductory level class. Participants will learn the basics of identifying shrooms, make their own oyster mushroom basket, and see how they can grow wine cap mushrooms for next year’s harvest. The business believes the best way to educate is through classes and books. The co-owner has been a forager for about 10 years now. She says there is a big difference between growing versus foraging.

“There’s a lot to know about different mushrooms. They grow different kinds of substrates, or soils, or trees. And so, you really need to know a lot about it, and this is kind of an introductory into how to go about mushrooms and even trying, a lot of people haven’t tried an oyster mushroom before and the ease of growth of it is, it’s a pretty great way to try it out,” said Louis Kolthoff, Co-Owner of Growing Duluth.

The growing edible mushrooms class is this Thursday night from 5:30 to 6:30. You can go to Growing Duluth’s website to sign up.
