The CAF holds Garage Sale Fundraiser for Aircraft Restoration Project

SUPERIOR, Wis.– On Saturday, The Commemorative Air Force held its first indoor garage sale at the Richard Bong Memorial Airport to raise funds to restore their World War II aircraft.

The CAF had help from a few local vendors and donations from the community to put on this event. People could shop from a wide variety of products like military surplus items, craft supplies, clothing, children’s games, and more.

The CAF wants to restore the PBY Catalina flying boat to keep its World War II history alive in the Twin Ports area.

“When we have the airplanes up and running, we will have more open houses and air shows, like that during the year. If not here then close by, said Steve Hamlin, safety officer at the CAF. “ It will belong here to our squadron and we get to fly them from here, fly them to air shows, and give rides in them. Just show people the history.”

The CAF says they look to have the aircraft restored in the next five years.
