Duluth Drive-By Suspect Charged
Suspect fires at house, hits nephew's bedroom
DULUTH, Minn. – A 43-year-old Duluth man has been charged in a drive-by shooting that occurred at his own family’s home in the Lakeside/Lester Park neighborhood.
Authorities say Justin Miller drove past the 5400 Block of Oakley St. shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday before he aimed and fired a bullet that would end up striking the room of his 13-year-old nephew.
No injuries were reported, and officers took Miller into custody shortly after the incident. Upon arriving at the jail, officers found what appeared to be a small amount of methamphetamine on Miller’s person.
In addition to two counts of a drive-by shooting at an occupied residence and 5th-degree drug possession, Miller is also facing six counts of violating a harassment order. The family members living at the residence, which included juveniles, had an active harassment order against Miller before the shooting.
Miller is looking at a maximum sentence of 55 years in prison. He is due back in court on October 22.
