College of St. Scholastica Students Volunteer for Fall Community Day

DULUTH, Minn. — Around 500 College of St. Scholastica students are volunteering in the Twin Ports.

It is all part of Fall Community Day 2024. The college allows each class to decide where they want to volunteer and gives them the day off school. On Wednesday groups were out at various organizations including Northland Adaptive Recreation & Duluth Superior Sailing Association. Staff also look forward to this event every year. One professor says learning does not only happen in the classroom.

“I think it sets the tone for the year for us. It’s making sure that students recognize that it’s not just about being on campus and studying. It’s about what we’re doing out in the community to just be good citizens. You know the idea of volunteerism is something a lot of our students come to, but they may not have done it sort of on their own accord and the idea is that even though we’re curating this they’re basically getting to the point now where they’re going to try to start thinking about volunteering on their own after college. And this is sort of just I think preparation for that,” said Jeremy Craycraft, CSS Professor.

This community day event happens twice a year.
