Northern Star: Anthony Vo

Vo has been all-conference his first three seasons as a Saint.

DULUTH, Minn.- When you first start playing sports at the college level, it can take some time to adjust.

But for CSS senior linebacker Anthony Vo, he jumped right in as a freshman and never looked back.

“Coming into the MIAC as a freshman it’s kind of eye-opening, you don’t really know what you’re stepping into. But, after that freshman year, I just wanted to stack up the days and get better as I could,” said Vo.

And that he did, as he’s been all-conference in his first three years as a Saint.

“He was born with some talent. But, with talent and development and the dedication to his skill work, he has really really done a phenomenal job. He has been recognized and deservingly so,” added head coach Mike Heffernan.

Like all things, Vo had to adjust over time, including working with two different defensive coordinators.

“It’s kind of been hard to find my role but thankfully I found my role in each spot. Doing my part in the defense is a big part of how I’ve been able to thrive,” said Vo.

That’s also been done by playing a number of positions for the Saints.

“He is a focal part of our defense. Whether he is sometimes asked to play on the line of scrimmage. Sometimes he backs off, sometimes he’s in different matchups. Really a lot revolves around what he’s able to do and his ability day in and day out,” said Heffernan.

Vo knows though that it takes more than just himself on the defensive side of the ball.

“In my opinion, I think I’m one of the field generals on the defensive side because we have Austin Mundt and Jon Bonner out there too so they’re out directing. Everyone on the defense is a field general in my opionion. But, just trying to find the right things to do in that defense. Trying to help out younger guys and everything like that and setting an example for not only myself but other players on the team,” added Vo.

Vo and the Saints are next in action on Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus.
