Duluth’s Brighton Beach Reopens
DULUTH, Minn. — After years of construction, Duluthians will be glad to hear that Brighton Beach is finally reopening.
You might recall when Brighton Beach closed back in August of 2021. The beach endured years of erosion, leading to lengthy repairs. But now, they’re finally ready to welcome back the public.
“What I will say, and I hope you will say to others as we go out and about after today is, it is different, and yet has all the elements of everything you’ve always loved about Brighton Beach. So really job well done to everybody who participated and helped us get here today,” said Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert.
A lot of the construction involved repairing damage from storms. But having more accessibility was another thing kept in mind.
“It’s much more resilient than it was before. There’s been a lot of engineering and design to place anchor stones and create berms and vegetate the shoreline. Yet we still intentionally did that, so people have an easier and better access to the shoreline than they did before,” said Duluth Parks and Rec Assistant Manager Cliff Knettel.
Other updates to the park include extending the lake walk. As well as renovating some of the historical buildings, such as the stone fireplace and the pavilion.
