#4 UMD Women’s Hockey Returns to Action with Two-Game Series at MSU-Mankato

Just last year, UMD took all four meetings against the Mavericks.

DULUTH, Minn.- It’s back to work for the 4th ranked UMD women’s hockey team, who are coming off their 2nd bye week in the now one month old season.

The Bulldogs continue the conference portion of their schedule this weekend when they travel to play two at Minnesota State- Mankato.

Just last year, UMD took all four meetings against the Mavericks.

But this time around, head coach Laura Schuler sees a much different opponent, who can play with the best especially at their home barn.

“It’s going to be a tough one going to Mankato, it always is for us. Every single time we’re on the road playing against Mankato. They definitely bring it when they’re at home. So we know it’s going to be a tough two games ahead of us. I know they just got off of playing Minnesota and went into overtime when they were back at their arena against them and played a really solid game there. So excited for this weekend to see how we end up doing,” said Schuler.

Just last week, UMD forward Gabby Krause announced she is medically retiring after dealing with a herniated disk in her back. She said Wednesday she plans to stick around and help the team.

“I’m planning on continuing skating on skill days or something or stuff like that on Sunday’s I’m hoping to keep skate. But my role right now is on gamedays I’m in charge of face-offs wins and losses between all of our centers. Then I’m the communication between the bench and the pressbox. So if we have anything to look at, challenge anything, I’m that person that will make that decision,” added Krause.

Puck drop for game one between the Mavericks and Bulldogs is set for 6 PM on Friday.
