Moose Lake/Willow River Football Claims Fourth Straight, 18th Overall Section Title

Moose Lake/ Willow River claims their 18th section title in school history.

ESKO, Minn- First set of section championship matches kicked off on Thursday.

In section 7AA, Moose Lake/ Willow River took down Mesabi East 24-14 to earn their fourth straight section title.

Despite having a small senior class, coach Dave Louzek spoke about why this team had what it takes to win the section.

“We have a small senior class, six seniors and then 20 juniors. Those juniors really stepped up and led the way in the weight room and our seniors, six seniors despite low numbers with our seniors, they are great leaders, great team leaders,” said Dave Louzek Moose Lake/Willow River head coach.

“This group is special, especially senior year, grew up with all of these boys and to come out here and face a little adversity, first quarter, first half. But to come back and bring it back together and be able to regain our self and put up a couple more scores on the board feels pretty good,” said Levi Mikrot, a running back and linebacker for Moose Lake/Willow River.

The Rebels will find out their first-round opponent in the coming days.
