Ely Volleyball Defends Section 7A Title, Advances to State for 3rd Straight Season

Ely defeated Bigfork in straight sets on Saturday in Hermantown.

HERMANTOWN, Minn.- The Ely volleyball team defended their section 7A title on Saturday, defeating Bigfork in straight sets.

The scores were: (27-25, 25-15, 25-18).

“The third year feels just as good as the first. It really is cool. Every team is different, it’s just really neat to experience that with every single team we’ve had the last three years. It was a fight, which is good we want that so that we can compete at state. That’s what we need to get ready for state. It’s great to see,” said head coach Megan Wognum.

“A few of us have been there and we have a really young bench right now and young starters. But, knowing we all trust each other, I think we can just come in with confidence knowing that we’ve been there before,” added middle hitter Lilli Rechichi.

Just last season, Ely ended up winning the consolation title.

They’ll learn who they matchup against in the first round on Sunday.
