UMD Men’s Hockey to Open Conference Slate Against North Dakota
UMD will try to turn around the recent trend against UND, as they've won only two out of their last 10 meetings.
DULUTH, Minn.- This upcoming weekend will mark the start of conference play for the UMD men’s hockey team.
And what a way to start as the Bulldogs will welcome in the Fighting Hawks of North Dakota into Amsoil Arena.
UMD will try to turn around the recent trend against UND, as they’ve won only two out of their last 10 meetings.
Just last season, the Fighting Hawks took all four games, winning by at least two in each contest.
Head Coach Scott Sandelin says it’s always a challenge coming off the bye week, but added they have to be locked in by puck drop.
“I know we have to be ready, can’t start like we did Friday against Minnesota or we’re going to be in trouble and you’re going to chase the game. We’ve gotta be ready to play. I know our guys are excited to play, get back to playing because like I said these weeks get long,” said Sandelin.
It’s an extra special weekend for UMD captain Dominic James as he missed the last time the Bulldogs clashed with the Fighting Hawks.
“It’s tough to put into words what it’s exactly like. But, coach is doing a good job. It’s a different world when you go and play in our league. We’re the best league in college hockey in my opinion. Especially with a NoDak team coming in off of three losses here I believe so it’s just going to be war our there,” added James.
James is coming off a five-point series against Stonehill back on October 26th.
Game one is set for Friday at 7:07 PM.
