Car Memorial Gathering for Skyline Parkway Crash Victim
DULUTH, Minn.– Over two dozen friends and family members gather two days later and turned the emotional get together into a car show, to celebrate his hobby, following the devastating loss of 19-year-old Tyriq Gordon.
Tyriq died over the weekend in what authorities are believing to be a high-speed accident, off of West Skyline Parkway in Duluth.
The day after this tragic event happened, his friends immediately planned a meeting.
It was filled with laughs, hugs, and bonding over their shared car hobby.
His friends sharing the hard work that goes into maintaining them.
One of those friends, who knew him for over a decade, said this is what he would’ve wanted.
“He would’ve loved this. He loved his cars, he loved everything. You know, this was his hobby, a passion, something he loved. So, for people to come out and do something for him it’s nice. It’s the most we could do. I know he’s up there laughing at us and whatnot,” said Tyriq’s longtime friend Demario Lapre.
The group hit the road and took a scenic route, driving up the north shore in his honor.
Tyriq’s family and friends are sticking together during this difficult time.
“I wish I could see him again. I loved him, truly, dearly and all. It’s just, it was too soon, you know? I don’t wish this on anyone, ever. Never will, never have. You know, I just pray every day that no one has to deal with this ever, you know,” said Lapre.
A go-fund-me was set up in Tyriq’s honor.
In just two days, the $15,000 goal was reached to cover funeral expenses, the money is also going towards Tyriq’s project car.
It will be handed down to his younger sister, Niyah, when she is old enough to drive.
The celebration of life for Tyriq is happening on Friday November 22nd at 11 AM at Clyde Iron Works. On what would’ve been his 20th birthday.
