Wednesday Morning Northland Forecast: 11/20/2000
Good morning, Northland! The rain has moved on out, but it definitely made an impact, with multiple areas seeing record rainfall for November 19. This includes Duluth, with a new record of 1.31″ for November 19 passing the old 1983 record of 1.23″, and other areas as well including International Falls, Brainerd, and Hibbing. International Falls substantially broke the November 19 rainfall record, accumulating 1.22″ of rain which broke the old 1975 record of 0.49″. With the drought conditions that have been affecting the Northland, this rain has been very much welcomed.
Looking forward, we are seeing a bit of a cool down today as cold air wraps around the low-pressure system that brought us our rain. Today’s high will be 35, with clouds lingering and possibly a chance of snow especially further west. However, there won’t be much of any accumulation with any snow there is. Winds will also be calmer for the most part today compared to the substantial gusts many of us saw early yesterday. As we move into the overnight hours, the temperature will get to a low of 27 with winds picking up out of the northwest past midnight. Going into Thursday, it will warm up a bit, with a high of 42, and winds will be a bit stronger with speeds of 15-20 mph expected out of the northwest.
We have been seeing quite mild temperatures for the past few weeks but going forward into the weekend and next week. The temperatures will finally start to dip back into what we expect for this time of year, with highs in the mid to low 30’s and lows into the 20’s. Not much of snow is on the horizon currently outside of the little we get today, but there is a chance for snow coming into Sunday. I know a lot of us are looking forward to the snow, but even though the event from past couple days didn’t deliver, it is still early in the season so there will be ample opportunity for snow as we move into the Winter. Take care today, Northland, and I hope you have a wonderful morning!
