Northern Star: Brooks Johnson

Johnson and the Hilltoppers open the season on December 5th against Two Harbors.

DULUTH, Minn.- There hasn’t been much that Duluth Marshall senior Brooks Johnson hasn’t accomplished during his high school career.

That’s why he’s dedicating his last season to one goal and one goal only.

“I think the only thing that is missing on my high school basketball resume is the team accolade. So, I want to hopefully go undefeated this year. We’ll see, that’s going to be a hard goal to accomplish but I want to go to state,” said Johnson.

Doing anything he can to give his team the best chance to succeed.

“Just in the past couple of years, he’s kind of taken some kids aside, working on their game, working on their shot. Whatever that may be and that’s just helped the whole team in general,” added head coach Cam Berger.

Johnson even eliminated any potential distractions by announcing his commitment to UMD after his junior year.

“There’s no other program that I’d rather be a part of. Coach Wieck is honestly the best coached I could’ve asked to play for. Their entire program, Tyler Pederson, Jordan, JR, everybody is just great there. The way they play fits me perfectly. I’m super excited to be a part of their program,” said Johnson.

But that will have to wait till next season as Johnson still has work to do as a Hilltopper.

“Just setting mini goals. Don’t get scored on. Score 10 points of offensive rebounds, get 10 assists, set up your teammates this amount of times. Just small individual goals really help my game progress. In the long run, it will show up there when our team is winning,” added Johnson.
