Bong Center Gives Thanks for Veterans

With crowds growing over the years, the meal continues to bring servicemembers together

SUPERIOR, Wisc. -The Bong Historical Center gives thanks to veterans with a 7th year of Thanksgiving meals.

From 30 to a few hundred; the Richard I Bong Center in Superior has grown their annual Thanksgiving meal with each year.

With more attendees, the center gained support in feeding the larger crowds from local businesses like the Manitou Inn, and local organizations like Pattison Park Lion’s Club.

Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Clint Mattson has been a volunteer at the Bong Center for 11 years. He said the turkey dinner is a chance for veterans to come together and build comradery, adding that it shows veterans that the public is thankful for their service.

“I really appreciate the fact that there’s supporters in the community that are supporting this turkey dinner,” Mattson said, “it shows a degree of respect and I think an appreciation for veterans.”
