Duluth Fire Foundation Fundraises for K9 Unit

DULUTH, Minn.– The Duluth Fire Foundation is putting a spotlight on 20 Duluth Firefighters and their dogs.

They’re selling calendars to go towards one very good boy.

K9 Jack is the only dog in the state trained to detect flammable liquids that are involved in arson cases.

He has worked with the Duluth Fire Department since April.

Unlike police dogs, Jack is not funded by the Northland K9 foundation.

The proceeds from the fundraiser are going towards his food, training, and vet bills.

The unique idea came from one board member.

“When I pitched the idea to the fire department and the chief, I didn’t think he was going to go for it. When he was on board, he said, ‘Yep, let’s do it!’  I sent an email out to our crews,
to see if anyone was interested. And the response was overwhelming,” said Ali Shea, Duluth Fire Foundation Board Member.

The calendars are selling quick. Sales started yesterday and they’ve already gone through two boxes.

They cost $20 each, and you can pick it up at the headquarters or have it mailed out for an additional $5.
