Birders Flock to Sax Zim Bog

MEADOWLANDS, Minn.– The bog is back in full swing, and guests are wasting no time in getting out in nature.

The welcome center recently opened at Sax Zim Bog, and people are back to check out the trails and the boardwalks.

Lots of nature enthusiasts travel near and far to check out the variety of wildlife the bog has to offer.

They have their cameras ready, and their sights set for a special creature.

“I think one of the coolest parts is that some of these birds that we call pretty common, like black capped chickadee or nut hatches or things like that.
They’re not all over the world.  And so, when people are coming, like black capped chickadees might be a life bird for people. Certainly, great gray owls and hawk owls and things like that are really exciting for folks,” said Clinton Dexter-Neinhaus, the head naturalist for Friends at Sax Zim Bog.

The head naturalist for Sax Zim Bog created a list on their website of every species seen at the bog.

And right now, over 3,000 different plants, bugs, and birds has been logged.
