Grand Rapids Hopes to Break Ground Soon on Sports Pavilion

The pavilion will free up ice time for local skaters and be used for functions all year long.

Hockey season is just around the corner and skaters in Grand Rapids will soon have a new place to lace up their skates.

Ground will break soon on a new outdoor sports pavilion which will help free up ice time for local players.

The total cost of the pavilion is $800,000 and is being paid for in parts by the city, the youth hockey association, and two grants.

“It will enable us to keep our large tournaments which bring a lot of people and economic impact to Grand Rapids but also just another nice venue for different sports, community events. I can see company picnics, reunions, other things using a venue like this as well,” said Parks and Rec director Dale Anderson.

Officials hope for the pavilion to be completed sometime next spring.

Additional donations are welcome to help pay for the rest of the cost of the structure.
