Lego Robotics Tournament Held in Hermantown
HERMANTOWN, Minn. — It was a weekend of problem solving at Hermantown High School as students tested their skills during a robotics competition.
Two robotics tournaments were held at the school Saturday and Sunday. One being the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) tournament.
37 teams across the northland participated in this years tournament, more than ever before.
The event sees students from 4th-8th grade testing their Lego robots skills in a task course as well as showing off their design abilities.
Organizers say the tournament grows every year, as more kids are getting involved in robotics.
“This is a great way to learn how to code, program, do some engineering, problem solve and they like competing, they like using the Legos,” said organizer and Teacher John Wojciuk.
Some students who took part in the tournament said robotics teaches them a lot about their abilities and how to work in a team.
“We have presentations, we do robot judging and all of our points get added up. I’m personally really good at coding and communicating, so robotics teaches me a lot about myself,” said student Linnea Wentzel.
Teams who did well at the Hermantown Tournament move on to the next stage of competition.
