Annual “Treecycling” Program Begins

DULUTH, Minn.– When the holidays are over, there are several options to take down the Christmas tree.

The gates are open at numerous locations to begin “tree-cycling”.

The annual program allows people to get their trees recycled and eventually turned into compost.

The locations are scattered around Duluth parks and community centers.

There are also some spots in Cloquet and Moose Lake as well.

The tree-cycle program has been running for decades.

“In the early 90s the state of Minnesota banned the yard waste from the landfill, so we opened up this site here. So that people had a place to bring their leaves and their brush. And trees including holiday trees. And we mix the yard waste with food waste to make our compost,” explained Dori Decker, the Environmental Program Coordinator at WLSSD.

On their website, they include a full list of locations, as well as their hours of operation for drop offs.
