Solar Power Projects in Works at Duluth Public Schools

Duluth Minn — Duluth Public Schools are finalizing plans for two new solar projects on district property.

One project will be installed near Lincoln Park Middle School.

The other at the school’s district office.

The solar power will not only help provide cleaner energy but also helps offset the costs of the energy they currently use.

Students assisted in advocating for the solar project.

“Even though we have been actively pursuing solar for the past several years, I think it’s also inspiring that weve seen our students take an active role with the leadership and the advocacy that they have related to lobbying for the state to have this funding, for urging us as a district to move forward. I think seeing that type of student leadership especially around something positive for the school and community it’s great to see and very inspiring to me as a superintendent” – Jon Magas, Superintendent

The projects are in partnership with Minnesota Power, Minnesota’s Solar in the Schools program, and other potential grants.

The projects are not yet approved but Superintendent Magas anticipates the applications will be a success.
