Northern Star: Gaby Andreacchi

Andreacchi is having a career year with 12 points so far for the Yellowjackets.

SUPERIOR, Wis.- From Thunder Bay, Canada to UW-Superior, Gaby Andreacchi has found a home in Superior for the last three seasons.

Even though Andreacchi has skated for the Yellowjackets during her college career, she says she has been playing in the area her whole life.

“I have been playing at Wessman, playing at the Heritage with the Thunder Bay Queens for a while. Coming here wasn’t that big of a change for me because I have been doing it pretty much my whole life and I just really love the area, it kind of reminds me of home,” said Andreacchi.

In her final season with UWS, Andreacchi and the Yellowjackets have a new head coach at the helm.

Bre Simon is in her first year at UW-Superior after Dan Laughlin retired last season. In Simon’s short time with Andreacchi she noticed her impact on the team.

“Fun player to watch, she’s a very skilled player, very big hockey IQ as well too. She’s someone that I look towards when we need a big goal or something like that, said Simon “She’s somebody that the girls rely on a lot. She’s just a good person to be around,” said Simon.

Andreacchi has a career high in assist this season and is tied for the team high. She gives credit to her linemates for this success.

“If you watch her on the ice too, again she just knows where to be, she knows where her linemates are. She’s playing with Emma Booth and Jenna Hoops right now. Those three together are very successful,” said Simon. “I think we move it really well together. Emma and Hoops are also just great at getting open and finding those open lanes. So I think also the high in assists for me this year is due to that,” said Andreacchi.

After Andreacchi’s time at UWS, she still wants to share her passion for the game with others after her career.

“I would love to go back to my hometown honestly and coach the Thunder Bay Queens. They’ve just given me a lot. They’ve made me the kind of person and player I am today. If I could do that and just have fun and give back to the community, said Andreacchi.

UWS is next in action on Friday at UW-River Falls.
