Duluth Figure Skating Club hosts skating competition at the DECC

DULUTH, Minn. — For 45 years, the DECC has hosted the 2nd largest skating competition in the country. Now, this weekend, 600 skaters from all across the country will be hitting the ice to show off their skills with jumps, spins, and routines set to music.

The annual event is hosted by the Duluth Figure Skating Club. The competition will feature skaters aged 5 to 74, and is open for spectators to view all weekend.

“Figure skating is important because all the skaters are able to showcase individual talents,” said Alyssa Reder-Judinck, director of the Duluth Figure Skating Club. “Figure skating is an individual sport so they can really, if it’s artistry they want to do, or the athleticism. But they’re really able to hone in on every skater’s own personal best skills.”

On Friday alone, the competition will feature around 68 groups of skaters, with 5-8 skaters competing against each other within each group.
