16 Teams Look to Sweep Competition in 2025 USA Curling National Championship
DULUTH, Minn. — The USA Curling hosted a national championship in Duluth, it’s first time hosting in 17 years. 16 teams looked to compete head-to-head in the 2025 USA Curling National Championship.
Eight men and eight women’s team looked to sweep the competition, hoping to advance to the World Championships and represent Team USA.
This year’s line-up featured a wide array of local talent. Team Shuster looked to be a force to be reckon with, being lead by 2018 Olympic Gold Medalist John Shuster of Duluth.
“Monday through Friday is going to be pretty ho-hum for the most part,” said John Landsteiner, an alternate for Team Shuster. “But that’s the build up to the playoffs. And once we get to the playoffs on Friday, Saturday, Sunday; it’s going to be pretty exciting.”
Kory Dropkin, a skip for Team Dropkin, was also excited to play on the national level at home. He’s been playing the game since 5, and hoped to beat out Team Shuster after finishing behind them in 2024.
“I think this is a mental game, kind of just like golf,” said Dropkin. “So it’s easy to beat yourself up when you’re not playing well, but kind of being able to get in the hack and make the next shot, and do what you can for your team.”
The winners of the 2025 USA Curling National Championship have the opportunity to secure a spot for the Olympic Trails in Sioux Falls, SD, this upcoming November. The playoff games will be held this weekend, Friday through Sunday, Jan. 31 – Feb. 2.
